Kenneth J. Sousa, PhD is the owner of Horizon Development and Advisory Services.  Dr. Sousa has over 40 years of experience in business, advisory services, consulting, research and teaching.

Dr. Sousa has a variety of experience, skills, and knowledge associated with various industries and projects.  During his transition to the academe, he leveraged his business experience to develop students in a variety of concepts and skills.  A common thread throughout the delivery of his coursework was to deliver a quality education through an organized, structured course design.

Dr. Sousa transition to the academe developed an aptitude and propensity for coaching, counseling and providing advice to students.  Over his 28 years in the academe, his availiblity and access for an informal chat, helpful advice, serious discussion, mock interviews, resume editing, or just a listening "ear" formed his the difference between an educator and teacher.

His teaching and research areas include electronic business, database management systems, applications development, information systems strategy, data analysis, and project management.  Before joining the faculty at Bryant, he held information systems positions as a consultant, senior systems analyst and project manager.

Education and Academic Career

He received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Roger Williams University, a Master of Business Administration from Bryant College, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Rhode Island.  His doctoral research focused on the use of electronic business technology within the purchasing activities of manufacturing businesses.

In addition to information systems courses, he also has taught Project Management for Accounting Leadership in the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPAc) program.  He also served as Coordinator of the Honors Program at Bryant University from 2006 – 2012.

Awards and Regognitions

  • Elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, Omicron Delta Kappa, Delta Sigma Pi, Order of Omega.
  • Named as a Sam M. Walton Fellow associated with Enactus.
  • Served as Treasurer and member of the Board of Directors of the Delta Chi Educational Foundation.
  • Awarded Meritorious Service Award, Order of the Shield from the Delta Chi Fraternity.
  • Awarded the Nelson Gulski Service Award and Distinguished Faculty Award from Bryant University.
  • Awarded Meritorious Dissertation from Decision Sciences Institute.

Community Involvement

Dr. Sousa also has served in various volunteer and civic activities. He serves his parish chaperoning faith-based events as well as mentoring and teaching youth. In addition, he has served as an appointed member on several local boards including Financial Review Commission and Economic Development Commission. Currently, he serves as Vice Chair of the Budget and Financial Review Board for the Town of Smithfield, Rhode Island.
